Dora Jane (Sandlin) Hawkins

Dora Jane (Sandlin) Hawkins, 87, of Scottsburg IN, passed away Sunday, March 26 2023, at Lake Pointe Village in Scottsburg. She was born October 26 1935 in Gays Creek, Perry County, Kentucky to the late Bert Sandlin and the late Elizabeth (Begley) Sandlin. Dora was married for 34 years to the late Bill Hawkins. She had been previously employed as a waitress. A Christian by faith, Dora loved different music, however her favorite music artists were Elvis, Bob Seeger, and the group Alabama. Dora loved having fun with people as well as people loved being with her; she loved dancing, she loved to laugh and make others laugh—a spitfire who loved life and wearing bling. She loved road trips with her late husband, Bill. Dora was a huge collector of coffee mugs, angels and dolls. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star-Chicago Chapter previously serving as Worthy Matron and later affiliated with Scottsburg OES #107. Survivors: brother Johnny Sandlin of Scottsburg; sisters Betty Tidwell of Lexington IN, Sally Gilbert of Carbon Hill AL, and Linda Kay Austin of Scottsburg IN; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, siblings Mavis “Dude” Dixson, Inez “Tom” Riley, Jessie Broughton, and Berta Lee Howard.

The family will receive friends on Friday, 5pm – 8pm, March 31 2023 and Saturday, April 1 2023 10am – 1pm, at Christensen-Hoagland Family Funeral Home, 80 N 1st St., Scottsburg IN. An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be held on Friday, 7:30pm at the funeral home by the Scottsburg OES #107 chapter. Pastor Aaron Flucke will conduct the funeral service on Saturday at 1pm at the funeral home and Dora will be laid to rest at the Scottsburg Cemetery, in Scottsburg IN.
