Earle D. Vandegrift

Earle Dean Vandegrift, 76, of Scottsburg IN, passed away at his residence, November 30 2023. Earle was born March 31 1947 in Witchita Kansas, to the late Glenn Vandegrift and the late Lola Gilbert Vandegrift. Earle was married for almost 46 years to Mildred “Mickey” Fay Thomas Vandegrift before she preceded him in death. Earle was proud of his military service in the U.S. Army, 1966-1968 having been stationed in Knoxville TN. He previously was employed from 1970 to retiring in 2002 with General Electric; then was employed 2002 to 2019 for Mason & Mefford in Carrollton KY. Earle was a Christian by faith and was a “big hearted man” who loved his grandkids; he was a hard worker; kind and good natured with an ornery side. He liked camping and golfing; and he loved dancing with his wife, Mickey. He also liked to play softball and corn hole. His favorite basketball teams were IU and Kansas along with his favorite baseball team the Atlanta Braves. Along with his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a son Earle (Jeffrey) Vandegrift of Scottsburg IN and his sisters Glenda Weber and Sandy Rogers of Kansas. His survivors to cherish his memory include his daughter Teresa & husband Al Lafferty of Scottsburg; grandchildren Justin & wife Amanda Vandegrift of Hanover IN; Jasmine & Bradley Vandegrift of Scottsburg IN; and Logan Vandegrift of Shelbyville IN; and great grandson Jackson Vandegrift of Hanover IN; sister Vicki & husband Harry Bokey of Wichita KS; and several nieces & nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 5 2023, 11am – 1pm at Christensen-Hoagland Family Funeral Home, 8 N 1st St., Scottsburg IN 47170. A funeral service will be conducted at 1pm, Tuesday, December 5 2023 at the funeral home and Military Honors at the Lexington Cemetery will be conducted by the American Legion Post 234. Memorial Donations can be made to the Donor’s Choice.
