Gary Wayne Oakes

Gary Wayne Oakes, age 37 of Seymour, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Born January 27, 1980 in Salem, Indiana, he was the son of David Oakes and Donna (Edens) Weston.

Gary was an adventurous person as he loved to do anything outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting guns, kayaking and Jeeping with his friends, he was a member of the ‘Small Town Jeep Club’ here in Seymour. He worked for Cummins for 15 years and was exceptional at fabrication welding. Gary was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Sydney Oakes; his parents, David (Carol) Oakes and Donna (Gary) Weston; his siblings, Steven (Christie Schmitt) Oakes, Charles (Brooke) Oakes, David (Kirsten) Oakes, Trisha Oakes and Brian (Lindsey) Girt; his former wife, Michelle (Meier) Oakes; eight nieces and nephews and his grandmother, Mary Smalley.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers; Robert Smalley and Elmer Oakes.

A celebration of life will be held at the Woodlawn Life Celebration Center at 12:00 pm Saturday, September 9, 2017 with Rev. Jeffrey Stuckwisch officiating. Friends and family may call on Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 10:00 am until time of service.

Memorials can be made at the funeral home toward the care fund of his daughter, Sydney Oakes.
