Gene Thomas Powers

August 7, 1932 — June 9, 2019

Gene Thomas Powers, age 86 of Brownstown, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at St. Vincent Heart Center. Born August 7, 1932 in Evarts, KY, he was the son of John T. and Annie (Garrison) Powers. On December 17, 2005 in Brownstown, he married Wilma Ruth Callahan, who survives.
Gene graduated from the Clearspring High School in 1950 and then joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and served during the conflict. He was retired as an audiologist where he worked in Phoenix, Arizona for 30 years. Gene then moved to Louisville where he ran a courier business, Powers Express, for 10 years. He was a member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church in Louisville and when not working, enjoyed hunting, fishing, wildlife, camping and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Brownstown; son, Thomas (Karen) Powers of Mesquite, NV; daughters, Debra (Doug) Ault and Diana (Greg) Ault both of Brownstown; brother, Jim (Lynn) Powers of Lafayette, IN; grandsons, Trevor and Chad Powers, Kyle (Amy), Bryan (Ruth) and Andrew Ault and greatgrandchildren, Kenneth and Tatum Powers and Brindley Ault.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leroy and sister Lucille.
A military graveside service will be held at 11:00am on August 7, 2019 at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre has been entrusted with the arrangements.
