H. Tootie Harrod

H. Tootie (Bloom) Harrod, age 92 of Madison, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at King’s Daughters’ Hospital. Born May 28, 1921 in Madison, Indiana, she was the daughter of Carl and Pauline (Winkel) Bloom who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Merle L. Harrod whom she married on June 5, 1961 and who passed away on May 2, 2006; two sisters, Louise Bloom Hoffman and Colette Casey and one brother, Joseph Bloom. Mrs. Harrod had retired from the Jefferson Proving Grounds and had previously worked at the U.S. Shoe Factory and Kroger’s in downtown Madison. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, the Cincinnati Reds and IU basketball. She loved her great grandchildren and anxiously awaited the birth of her great-great grandchild in October. Survivors include one son, James Greene of Ft. Myers, FL; four grandchildren, Barbara Stevens and her husband, Travis, Patti Wallace and her husband, John, Jackie Thurston and her husband, Dan and J.B. Greene and his wife, Lisa; seven great-grandchildren, Kristopher Wallace and his wife, Anna, Kurtis Wallace and his wife, Kate, Kelsi Wallace, Trey Thurston, Ryan Thurston, Trisha Thurston and Shelby Greene. Graveside services will be conducted at the Grandview Memorial Gardens at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 1, 2014 with interment to follow. Private visitation will be held at the Vail Funeral Chapel, 117 Holt Drive. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Madison Riverfront Development Project. Contribution cards will be available at the Vail Funeral Chapel.
