In their era, they dominated the league. During this time, he also enjoyed playing for Valeo in their softball league. For several years, Lonnie also coached his two oldest daughters’ team in the Brownstown Girls Softball League and by many was considered a favorite coach. One favorite season, he coached what was thought to be the underdog team to an undefeated season and took the championship tourney undefeated as well. One of his most proud accomplishments was being able to build two houses for his family that became their home. Survivors include his wife Anita and three daughters, Brittani Cornett and her husband Keegan, Tiffani Keys and her husband Michael, and Jessica Root. Also surviving are six siblings, Bobby (Margaret) Root, June (Joe) Miller, Ray (Sue) Root, Jeanie Root, Gary (Roxanne) Root and Lisa Dunn; his mother in law, Phyllis Chasteen; brother in law, Jack “Buddy” (Lisa) McCory, Jr, sister in laws, Patty (Alan) Woodward, Penny (Jerry) Emily and Linda Sue Murphy.
