Lurlene Joyce (Garroit) Wilhite

Lurlene Joyce Wilhite, born July 24, 1938 in Crothersville, Indiana, died peacefully August 16, 2023, at

her home in Columbus, Indiana.

She was predeceased by her parents Alma Rider Garriott and Gerald (Chalky) Garriott as well as her

husband Bill Wilhite.

Lurlene is survived by her son Ryan Bode; grandsons, Logan Bode and Dylan Bode; and, great grandson,

Sawyer Bode, all residing in the Columbus area. She is also survived by cousin, Ken of Scottsburg,

Indiana who always made time for Lurlene. Lurlene married Bill Wilhite in 1980 who had 4 children

whom she grew to love as her own. She is survived by his children: Dena Manning of Granbury, Texas;

Susan Holter of St. George, Utah; Denise Gasmire of North Richland Hills, Texas; Brad Wilhite of Celina,

Texas and all of Bill’s grandchildren, Travis, Will, Samantha, Ty, Ellen and Kyle.

Lurlene was a small woman with a big presence! She was witty and sassy, always poking fun in a loving

way, followed with a big smile and laughter! Lurlene had a passion for animals, having several pet

boxers and cats throughout the years. She was an avid horseback rider and camper in her younger

years, loved gardening and had an interest in the arts! In her later years, Lurlene was always up for a

good meal at any of her favorite restaurants and shopping.

Special recognition goes to close friends and neighbors Cindy and Kendal Hammel. The Hammel’s and

Lurlene formed a special bond growing to love each other like family over these last several years. A big

thank you to the Hammel’s from all of us for caring for and loving Lurlene so deeply. She was truly blessed by you.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Crothersville Cemetery in Crothersville, Indiana.
