Marlyn N Julian

In the early morning of April 13, 2014, Marlyn Naomi Julian (Green) journeyed from this world to the next. In her 98 years on Earth, Marlyn proved to be a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother and friend always.

Marlyn was a lifetime resident of Scott County. She was born in Lexington Township on July 22, 1915 and attended Hanover High School. During her school years, Marlyn discovered a great passion for learning, a trait she imparted with everyone she met.

Marlyn's best friend and partner in crime was her sister, Eva Hobson (Green). The pair developed a close companionship after losing their mother to tuberculosis as teens. Together, they embarked on adventures to the mall, bowling alley or to a quiet place to talk.

In February of 1935, Marlyn married into the Julian family after falling head over heals for Delbert Julian, one of seven brothers.

Her strength, patience and compassion never waivered, even when each of Delbert's brothers stayed with the young couple in their first few years of marriage. This became almost customary over the years, with a different family member rooming with the newlyweds each weekend. Marlyn and Delbert never turned away a person in need, whether it was a member of the family or someone Delbert met at the station or in town.

In the summertime, Marlyn would surround the Julians' Park Drive home with lush roses, begonias, poppies and pansies. As her garden continued to grow, so did her family with the births of her son, Arthur, and daughter, Lois.

Affectionately known as ‘Grandma Candy' to her three generations of grandchildren, her house was always filled with the sweet aroma of homemade plain pie, crackling broadcasts of the Cincinnati Reds games over her radio, and genuine warmth that only Grandma Candy's love could create.

Marlyn joins her husband, Delbert Julian; son, Arthur Julian; brother, Emery Green; and sister, Vera Schrock (Green) in eternal rest.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lois Mayfield (Julian) and Bruce; grandchildren, Mindy, Lynne, Rickey and Randy; ten great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.

Marlyn's family would like to thank Dr. Rodgers and the nurses at Hampton Oaks for the wonderful care they provided.

We love you a bushel and a peck with a hug around the neck, Grandma Candy.
