Marvin E Mcguire

August 9, 1929 — April 3, 2021

Marvin E. McGuire, 91, of Underwood IN, with his family by his side, he entered his heavenly home to be with Jesus and his wife, on April 3 2021. Marvin was born August 9 1929 in Mountrail County  North Dakota while his parents, the late Francis A McGuire & Louise E Hansen McGuire homesteaded in North Dakota. His parents brought the family back to their Underwood home during the winters, and at the age of 10 years, Marvin and the family stayed in Indiana year round. He attended the No. #8 Schooolhouse in Underwood through the eighth grade, and then attended Scottsburg Schools through grade 12, graduating  from Scottsburg High School in the class of l947. He received his BS from San Diego State and his Masters in Engineering from Purdue. On September 27 1954 he married the love of his life Betty Lou Byrd, enjoying 62 wonderful years until her death in 2016. Lieutenant Marvin E McGuire proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy, during the Korean and Viet Nam wars. Marvin was presently a member of North Charlestown Church of God in Charlestown IN; he previously was a member of New Chapel Methodist Church in Underwood; for 25 years a member at Graceland Baptist Church in New Albany having served as a trustee, deacon, and was the engineer for the staging of Graceland Baptist choir productions such as the Living Christmas Tree and the Easter pageant. He retired from Jefferson Proving grounds as an engineer; had taught mathematics at Austin High School; and was the sexton for Clark’s Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors: his children Dale Edward McGuire (Ida) of Scottsburg IN, Karen L Bottomley (David) of Underwood IN, Betty Jean Vonderheide (Lee) of Cedar Rapids IA;  daughter-in-law Brenda McGuire of Pangburn AR; sisters-in-law Yvonne McGuire of Underwood & Ruth Ann McGuire of Scottsburg; brother-in-law Richard Rezebek of Oak Harbor WA. Grandchildren Angela (Jason), Daniel, Sarah (Chris), Jennifer (Shae), Stephanie (John), Nicholas (Lacey), Brian (Katie), Ian (Carol), Elliot (Tess) Elissa (Phillip), Justin, Ryan, Greg (Amy), Kevin (Mindy). 26 precious Great grandchildren; 7 sweet nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Betty; son Donald Ray McGuire; grandson Dale Edward McGuire Jr.'Ed'; brothers Byron McGuire & Ivan McGuire; sister Eileen McGuire.
