Mary B. Shaffer

Mary B. Pender-Shaffer, age 82 of Madison, passed away at 8:38am on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at her home. Born August 21, 1930 in Switzerland County, she was the daughter of John and Nora (Cochran) Buchanan. Mary was married to Earl Pender in Madison who passed away in February 1979. She then married Fred Shaffer who also preceded her in death. She retired from the Fiesta Restaurant after 23 years of service. Mary was a member of the North Madison Baptist church where she was very active. She loved to fish and traveling to Florida. She also enjoyed watching movies and cooking. Survivors include two daughters, Anna (William) Anderson and Cathy Abbott; two sons, Jack (Ellen) Fisher and Charles (Phyllis) Pender all of Madison. Also surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth Young of Madison and Gladys Evans of Vincennes; two brothers, William Buchanan of Madison and Johnny Buchanan of Virginia Beach, VA. Mary also was the proud Grandma to 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and even four great-great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother Harry Buchanan and brother Charles Buchanan and daughter Carolyn Sue Pender-Conrad. Rev. Frank McGee will conduct services at 10:00am on Saturday, June 29th at the Vail Funeral Chapel, 117 Holt Drive in Madison. Visitation will be from 4:00pm until 8:00pm Friday at the funeral home and from 9:00am until service time Saturday. Burial will follow services at the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
