Nancy “Petie” Joann(Lindahl) Courtney Persing On the morning of July 11, 2014 Petie passed away peacefully in her sleep. She courageously lived with the effects of Parkinson ’s disease for nearly 20 years. She was 82 years old. Petie was born on April 18, 1932 in Washington DC to the late Eva Mae Burger and Charles David Lindahl. She grew up in Beaver, PA with two older sisters. After graduating from Beaver High School she married her high school sweetheart, Don. They moved to Anderson, IN where they lovingly raised their five children. Petie graduated from Anderson University, and later received a Master’s degree from Ball State University. She taught English at area high schools where she took her students on imaginary walks that they still remember today. After the death of her first husband, she married Tom. Upon retirement they travelled, visiting all 50 states, over 60 countries, and six continents. Petie served her community in many ways including pastoring White Chapel Church, participating in clown ministry, Christian’s Women Society in Seymour and mission trips, and serving in her church. She loved reading, the beauty of nature, poetry, collecting Peter Rabbits and items from her travels, and experiencing life. She loved being with family and friends. She will be dearly missed. Petie was preceded in death by her first husband of 35 years, Donald Addison Courtney, and step-daughter Karin Gray. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Thomas Eugene Persing, and her five children: Rebecca Ann Courtney-Knight (Norman) of Morgantown, IN; Donald Edwin Courtney (Marjorie Ehle) of Indianapolis, IN; David Lindahl Courtney (Rhoda Freeman) of Oswego, IL; Daniel Addison Courtney (Jamie Hemmings) of SouthLake, TX; Christine Ellen Courtney Cowan (Gregory) of Brentwood, TN. She is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren: Amanda Courtney Lane, Rachel Rebecca Lane Hewlate (Kevin), Daniel Richard Courtney (Stacie), Megan Suzanne Courtney Voss (Mitch), Wade Addison Courtney, Lauren Alexandra Courtney, Logan Matthew Courtney, Matthew Donald Courtney, Luke Lindahl Courtney, Kelby Christopher Cowan, Avery Donald Cowan, Mary Elizabeth Courtney, and Addison Ren Cowan. She is survived by eight great-grandchildren: Atticus Hewlate, Lorelei Hewlate, Phineas Hewlate, Adalaide Hewlate, Trey Courtney, Elijah Courtney, Brielle Courtney, and Maximus Voss. She is also survived by two sisters: Sally Pugh and Marjorie McIntosh. In addition, she is survived by step children: Tim (Lori) Persing; Ted (Donna) Persing; Teri Persing; Jane Persing; Kelly (Dan) Gentry; Kristi (Glenn) Paul; Kathy Gray; Julie (Wayne) Allman; Jamie (Jennifer) Gray. And 20 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. Petie was blessed to be cared for by many affectionate caregivers over the past five years. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 15th, 2014 at 10:00am at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service 229 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson, IN 46012 with Dr. Donald Johnson officiating. The burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Monday, July 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The National Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800; Miami, FL 33131 or Hospice at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
