Robert Harlan Heckman

Robert Harlan Heckman, age 90 of Seymour, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the Greenwood Meadows Senior Care. Born May 1, 1928 in Seymour, he was the son of Frederick Chester and Sarah Catherine (Lewis) Heckman. On August 22, 1964, he married Virginia Lee May Bakemeier.
Robert proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from February of 1946 to Feb of 1956 where he received Korean Service medal, UN Service medal, Good Conduct medal and National Defense Service medal and World War II Victory medal. After leaving the Marines he returned to Seymour to farm raising pigs, corn and black angus cattle. Robert was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Seymour.

Survivors include his daughter, Terri (Randy) Malone of Greenwood; son, Fred (Robin) Heckman of Seymour; grandchildren, Lauren Heckman, Michael Malone and Taylor Heckman; he is also survived by his sister and brother in law Emilyann and Clarence Grelle of Greenwood who introduced Robert and Virginia many years ago.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Virginia; and sisters, Thelma Ruth Mize and Altamae Lill.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre in Seymour. Services will be at 2:00pm at the funeral home followed by burial at Riverview Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials can be made at the funeral home to the donor’s choice.
