Shirley Mae Brock

Shirley Mae Brock, age 82 of Freetown, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Lutheran Community Home. Born April 23, 1936 in Whitesburg, KY, she was the daughter of William McKinley and Ollie Mae (Whitaker) Cooper. On July 12, 1957 in Freetown, she married Sherman D. Brock.

Shirley was a member of the Freetown United Methodist Church. She loved to travel and enjoyed reading, gardening, canning and collecting her stuffed animals. Her greatest life’s work was helping to raise her precious grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Sherman; children, David (Mary) Brock and Jeff Brock both of Seymour; Dennis (Teresa) Brock of Freetown and Melanie (David) Burgess of Seymour; grandchildren, Cassie Brock, Denise Brock, Peyton Brock, Tyler (Emily) Burgess, Drew (Megan) Burgess and Conner (Emily) Burgess; sisters, Helen Rotert, Betty Persinger and Judy (Don) Bonebright; and her sister in law Martha Jo Cooper.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Billy Ray Cooper; brothers-in-law, Billy Rotert and Paul Persinger.

Services will be at 1:00pm on Monday, January 14, 2019 at the Freetown United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00pm until 6:00pm and from noon until service time on Monday at the church. Burial will be at the Valley Home Old Regular Baptist Cemetery. Memorials can be made in Shirley’s memory to the Freetown United Methodist Church or to the Valley Home Old Regular Baptist Cemetery.
