Alonzo "Lonny" Alvin Harris Jr.

July 26, 1956 — October 5, 2025

Seymour

Alonzo "Lonny" Alvin Harris Jr., age 69, a gentle soul with an unwavering spirit, was born on July 26, 1956, in the serene town of Seymour, Indiana. After nearly seven decades of a life well-lived, he departed on October 5, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his beloved family.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Lonny embodied the dedication and valor that mark true heroes. His commitment extended beyond his military service; for over 30 years, he was a faithful member of the Easyville Church of The Lord Jesus Christ, finding solace and community in its embrace.

Lonny was a man of simplicity and quiet strength. He preferred the stillness of the woods, where he found joy in hunting and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to connect with nature and reflect on life’s profound beauty. He had a particular passion for classic rock music, often sharing laughter and camaraderie through his love of humor, finding delight in the antics of Bugs Bunny and the Three Stooges. A devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he enjoyed watching and cheering his team.

Though he often stayed mostly to himself, his reserved nature belied a deep well of warmth and affection. He had a remarkable ability to evoke laughter, lifting the spirits of those around him, and he will be remembered for the smiles he brought to many faces.

Lonny leaves behind a beloved family who cherish his memory: his son, Thomas E. Harris of Lafayette, Indiana; his daughter, Sarah A. Harris of Seymour, Indiana; his brothers, Gary Harris and his wife Alvona of Crothersville, Indiana, and Michael Harris and his wife Dina of Norman, Indiana; his sisters, Shelley Arrowood and her husband Rick of Crothersville, Indiana, Kathy Foist and her husband Jeff of Freetown, Indiana, Karen Harris of Scottsburg, Indiana, and Mary Walker and her husband Steven of Columbus, Indiana; and his sister Shannon Julian and her husband Rick of Seymour, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alonzo A. Harris Sr.; his mother, Shirley Ann Buster Harris; his beloved wife of 32 years, Mary L. Mize Harris, his brother, Jeffrey Harris; and his sister, Cynthia Harris.

Lonny’s life was one marked by heartfelt connections, quiet reflections, and an unyielding love for family. As we gather to celebrate his journey, we honor a man whose legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those who loved him. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Christensen Family Funeral Home - Winklepleck Chapel in Brownstown, Indiana, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM.
