Betty Jean Carter

January 26, 1936 — June 17, 2025

Seymour

Betty Jean Ross Carter, age 89, a beloved soul whose spirit brightened the lives of all who had the fortune to know her, departed this world on June 17, 2025, at her home, enveloped in the warmth and love of her family. Born on January 26, 1936, in Silver Creek, Indiana, Betty lived a life marked by love, generosity, and an unwavering strength that made her a guiding light to many.

A proud graduate of Charlestown High School, Class of 1954, Betty embarked on a career that would embody her commitment to caring for others. For over 15 years, she served as a Pharmacy Tech at Seymour Pharmacy, providing kindness and compassion to everyone who crossed her path. Her vocation was not just a job; it was an extension of her nurturing nature.

As a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Seymour Chapter 134, and the Amaranth Alyse Chapter, she embraced the bonds of sisterhood and service that these organizations fostered. Her faith played a pivotal role in her life, finding solace and strength within the community at The Church of Christ.

Betty was known for her feisty and strong-willed personality. She was a generous spirit, always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. She had a particular knack for sewing, crafting, and embroidery, and her fondness for reading revealed her imaginative heart. The kitchen became her sanctuary where she delighted in creating cherished dishes, such as her famous meatloaf, pineapple upside-down cake, and hearty chili, each bite infused with love and care.

Her family was her pride and joy. She leaves behind her devoted children: Mark Cravens and his wife Debra of Bloomington, Indiana; Jim Cravens of Seymour, Indiana; and Anita Cravens and her spouse Becky Thompson of Coxs Creek, Kentucky. Betty's legacy continues through her five treasured grandchildren—Rebecca Brewer, Damon Gillis, Jessica Moss, Derek Gillis, and Jeremy Kittle—and her fourteen great-grandchildren who filled her heart with joy.

Though Betty now joins her father, Charles Ross Sr., her mother, Georgia Burr Ross, her husband of 13 years, Travis Carter, and her brother, Charles Ross Jr., as well as her great-great-grandson, Lane Cobb, she leaves behind an indelible mark on this world.
