Daniel Austin Gillis, age 67, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana. He was born on June 6, 1959 to the late Benny Austin Gillis and Thelma May (Mitchell) Gillis of Seymour, Indiana. Daniel was a 1977 graduate of Seymour High School and of the Baptist Faith. He will forever be remembered as a witty, loyal man with an inquisitive and brilliant mind.
Daniel loved NASCAR, with Dale Earnhardt being his favorite. He loved sports and enjoyed playing softball for Swifty Farms and was number 2 on their payroll working as a Full Service Attendant. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and the Chicago Bears, along with the Cincinnati REDS and often took his children to games and acting as the family UBER driver. Even though Daniel was a sports fan, his biggest cheers went to his grandchildren during their sports ventures. Daniel loved music and all his kids were "living juke boxes", knowing every song he would quiz them on when it would come on the radio. He loved his family dearly and was a fierce defender of them. Daniel will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life he touched in nis own special way.
He is survived by his mother, two sons, Damon Austin Gillis and his wife Hannah of Loredo, Kentucky, Derek Gillis and his wife Carman of Seymour, Indiana. Three daughters, Jessica Moss of Seymour, Indiana, Andrea Hollin of Seymour, Indiana and Bernice Everhart of North Vernon, Indiana. One sister, Margie Benoit of Texas his beloved fiancé of 37 years, Theresa Everhart of Seymour, Indiana.
