Dennis Keith Hilliker, a man whose life was as expansive and vibrant as the highways he loved to traverse, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, at his residence. Born on April 20, 1946, in Round Lake, New York, Dennis's journey through life was marked by an insatiable thirst for adventure, a boundless warmth that touched everyone he met, and a lifelong commitment to service and family.

A 1964 graduate of High School, Dennis charted a course that took him far beyond the confines of his early surroundings. Proudly serving his country in the United States Navy, he embodied the spirit of dedication and honor. Yet it was on the open road where Dennis found his true calling. As a truck driver, he delighted in the endless horizons, the changing landscapes, and the stories whispered by the wind through the cab of his rig. The road was more than a livelihood; it was a canvas for his restless soul, a place where every mile held a promise of discovery.

Dennis was known affectionately as “Mr. Fix it,” a testament to his remarkable ability to mend, repair, and breathe new life into anything mechanical. His passion for engines and speed found a natural home in his admiration for NASCAR and his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt. Whether working on a stubborn engine or engrossed in a race, Dennis approached life with tireless energy and an infectious joy.

But to say Dennis loved the road is merely to scratch the surface. He was a man who never met a stranger, whose innate warmth and genuine curiosity opened doors to friendship wherever he traveled. His stories were woven from the rich tapestry of a life fully lived, shared generously with all who paused to listen. Always on the move, Dennis could not sit still—his heart beat in sync with the thrill of adventure, the pleasure of new sights, and the simple happiness of being part of the vibrant world around him.

Dennis’s embrace was legendary—always ready with a hug that conveyed both comfort and love. His laughter, his kindness, and his generous spirit left indelible impressions on all who knew him.

He is survived by a loving family who carry forward his legacy of warmth and resilience: his daughters Denise McGloshen and husband Sean of Max Meadows, Virginia, and Dana Thompson and husband Nate of Corydon, Indiana; his son David Hilliker of Seymour, Indiana; brothers Randy Hilliker and wife Patty of New York, Nelson Hilliker and wife Margie of New York, and Bruce Hilliker of New York. Dennis’s family circle also includes six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who are cherished parts of his story.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Hilliker and Marion Osterhaudt Hilliker, and siblings Dwayne Hilliker, Patricia Backus, and Kimberly Hilliker. Their memories live on, intertwined with the tales of a man who cherished family above all else.

A graveside service to honor Dennis Keith Hilliker’s life will be held on June 4, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 1415 North Gate Road, Madison, IN 47250. It is fitting that this final farewell takes place in a setting that honors his commitment to his country and his enduring spirit.
