Donna "Granny" Eacret Parks, age 91, a beacon of strength and sass, departed this life into the arms of her Heavenly Father, on July 20, 2025, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana. Born on July 31, 1933, in Seymour, Indiana, Donna’s journey through life was marked by unwavering loyalty to her family and an indomitable spirit that endeared her to all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
For many, she was not just "Granny;" she was a confidante, a source of warmth, and a culinary wizard whose holiday feasts were legendary. With an energetic personality that was as vibrant as her garden blooms, she possessed a straightforward demeanor that often left little room for misunderstanding. She meant what she said and said what she meant—a trait that made her all the more endearing. Her commitment to family run deep, demonstrated through her love of cooking and the way she dedicated herself to providing family specialties that became cherished traditions during holidays.
Her professional journey took her from the allure of hairdressing to the inviting warmth of hospitality as a Motel Desk Clerk, each role reflecting her penchant for welcoming others. A proud member of Vienna Baptist Church for over 85 years, she found solace and strength among her faith community, contributing to her enduring spirit and unwavering values.
An avid gardener, Donna delighted in nurturing her plants and flowers, cultivating beauty and tranquility in her surroundings. When she wasn't tending to her blossoms, she could be found engaging in crochet, embroidery, and quilt-making, stitching together memories that would be cherished by her clan for generations to come. Donna’s love for camping and travel resonated deeply within her; alongside her beloved husband, Samuel E. Parks Sr., whom she was married to for 47 wonderful years, she created lasting memories in the sun-kissed landscapes of Arizona and Florida.
She leaves behind a legacy woven with love and connection through her adored daughter Maurica Kimberlin of Scottsburg, Indiana; her sons James Lee Berna and his wife Patty of Underwood, Indiana, and Johnny Berna of Scottsburg, Indiana; five cherished grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Each of these beloved family members carries a piece of her spirit, echoing her laughter and wisdom in their lives.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Eacret, her mother, Thelma Hodapp Abbott, her dear husband Samuel E. Parks Sr., her brother Carl Abbott, and her grandson Jason Kimberlin. Each of them undoubtedly welcomes her now, their reunion a testament to the bond that remains unbroken even in absence.
A visitation for family and friends to honor Donna will be held on July 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM at Christensen - Hoagland Family Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana, a place that will resonate with memories and tributes from those whose lives she touched. She will be laid to rest at Scottsburg Cemetery immediately following services.
