Frances Woodworth Lemen

March 4, 1937 — November 2, 2025

Frances Lemen, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025. Born in Buffalo, New York, she moved to Scottsburg, Indiana at the age of five and made it her lifelong home for over 80 years.

Frances was a spirited adventurer with a deep love for motorcycles and the open road. She joined the Motor Maids in 1963 and remained a proud Golden Life member, traveling across the U.S. and Canada with her fellow riders. Her name and photos have graced motorcycle events and museums nationwide, a testament to her enduring presence in the riding community. Frances was a member of the Rainbow Strollers square dancers as well. She was also a charter life member of the American Motorcycle Association and a dedicated member of the Alpha Pi chapter of Psi Iota Xi.

Her passion for service extended beyond the road. After retiring, Frances volunteered at Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, and Twice- Told Tales, the Friends of the Library bookstore. She cherished these roles and the people she met along the way.

Frances’s career was as varied and vibrant as her personality. She worked as a carhop at Cliff’s Drive Inn, held positions at Child Craft in Salem and several telephone companies, and even spent years as an over-the-road semi driver. She later became the office manager at WMPI, where she worked for 21 years before retiring.

Faith was a cornerstone of Frances’s life. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsburg, where she served in many roles, including as organist for several years.

She is survived by her son, Michael Robin Lemen (Stephanie); granddaughter, Robyn Michel Miles, and great-granddaughter, Rylee Grace Miles — all of Scottsburg. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Gussie Lane and Herbert Woodworth, and her brother, Richard H. Woodworth.

Frances lived with joy, generosity, and a fearless spirit. Her legacy lives on in the stories she told, the roads she traveled, and the love she gave.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Bruce Bridgewater officiating. She will be laid to rest at Scottsburg Cemetery.
