Fred Leslie Chadd

May 18, 1952 — April 18, 2026

Seymour

Fred Leslie Chadd, a man whose warmth and gentle spirit touched all who knew him, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, at his residence, with his beloved wife by his side. Born May 18, 1952, Fred’s life was a testament to devotion—to family, friends, and the community he cherished.

For seventeen years, Fred dedicated himself with unwavering care and respect to the families served by Riverview Cemetery. His work there was more than a job; it was a sacred calling to honor and comfort those navigating moments of profound loss. Those who crossed his path remember him not only for his diligent hands but for a heart deeply attuned to the lives around him, a heart that found joy in lending support and sharing moments of kindness.

Fred’s presence was a beacon of friendliness—a man who loved his friends dearly and delighted in their company, always ready with a joke or a warm smile. The apartments where he lived became a small community warmed by his laughter and easy camaraderie. Among his simple pleasures were his fondness for watching ice fishing shows and the classic television series, The Rifleman, quiet pastimes that mirrored his thoughtful nature and appreciation for the calm strength found in steady companionship.

He was a lifelong member of a Baptist Church, and his faith was a quiet pillar in his life, grounding him through all seasons. It was this same faith and steadfast love that carried Fred through more than half a century of marriage to Rita Brock Chadd, his cherished wife of 53 years. Together, they built a life rich in love and family, a sanctuary plain in appearance but profound in meaning.

His legacy is carried forward by those who loved him most: his devoted wife Rita of Seymour, Indiana; his son David Chadd, also of Seymour; his daughter Leslie Oglesby of Crothersville; his brother Tom Chadd of Seymour; and his sister Kathy Wessel of Seymour. The family circle extends warmly to three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each a living thread in the tapestry of Fred’s enduring impact. He is reunited now with his parents, Elmer Chadd and Faye Noe Estes, whose memory anchors the family’s past and present.

As friends and family gather to remember Fred, a visitation will take place on April 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Christensen Family Funeral Home, 311 Holiday Square Road, Seymour, Indiana. This will be followed by a funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. continuing until 1:00 p.m. at the same location—a time to recall with tender reverence the man who lived with such a gentle heart and generous spirit. He will be laid to rest at Hayden Cemetery immediately following.

Fred Leslie Chadd lived simply, loved deeply, and left behind a world made softer by his presence. In our memories and stories, his laughter and kindness endure, eternal as the love that surrounded him to the very end.

Daniel and Betsy Christensen have been entrusted with the arrangements.
