Ida Lee (Patton) Tipton, age 73, a vibrant spirit who graced the world with her warmth and generosity, passed away at her residence in Seymour, Indiana on February 9, 2026. Born on September 1, 1952, in Oneida, Kentucky, Ida was a woman of remarkable resilience and tenderness, whose heart was directed with love for her family and friends.
A proud graduate of Salem High School in 1970, she furthered her education, earning an Associate's degree in Business Management from Indiana University—a testament to her determination and commitment. For over two decades, Ida found solace in her faith as a devoted member of Edisto Beach Baptist Church, where she served with grace as the former treasurer and a Sunday School Teacher. Within those sacred walls, she shared her light, particularly through her beloved cheesecakes and banana nut breads for Vacation Bible School bake sales—a sweet reflection of her giving nature.
Ida was known for her spunky personality, a blend of strong will and gentleness that made her a beloved figure among many. Though a private individual, she poured her love into her grand and great-grandchildren, whose lives were her greatest treasures. She was a truly sweet lady, embodying the essence of nurturing and affection.
Beyond her family, Ida had a passion for sewing and crocheting, mastering the art of creating beautiful creations with her nimble fingers. She found joy in nature, walking along the sandy shores of South Carolina and participating in "turtle rescues," where her heart and hands worked to ensure the safety of turtle eggs, guiding them toward the ocean as they took their first breath of freedom.
Ida is survived by her loving daughter, Tabitha Wooten of Crothersville, Indiana; her stepson, Rob Tipton and his wife Meredith of Hilton Head, SC; and her stepdaughter, Charlotte Ferguson and her husband Billy of Virginia, as well as stepdaughter Donna Tipton of Roanoke, Virginia. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Mary Gerth of Sebree, KY, two cherished grandchildren, Kelli Motley and her husband Brett and Blake Wright, along with eight step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren: Jayce, Wynter, Elena, and Jarvis. The legacy of her love lives on in each of them, as well as in several nieces, nephews, and friends who were blessed to know her.
Ida now joins her beloved in eternal rest, having been preceded in death by her father, Floyd Patton; her mother, Sylvia Davidson Rexroat; her husband of 18 years, Donald Tipton; and her brothers Carlo, Andrew, and Rometta Davidson.
As we remember Ida, let us celebrate a life beautifully lived—a life steeped in love, faith, and familial devotion. She may have left this earthly home, but the impact of her kindness remains, echoing like the gentle waves on the shoreline she so adored.
In keeping with her wishes, the family has chosen cremation.
The family requests memorial donations be directed to Edisto Beach Loggerhead Turtle Project (edistobeachseaturtles.com), Edisto Island Open Land Trust or Dementia Society of America (dementiasociety.org)
Daniel and Betsy Christensen have been entrusted with the arrangements.
