Jackie “Jack” Dean Galliher

Jackie “Jack” Dean Galliher, age 86, of Seymour, Indiana, and the son of the late Henry and Alma (Gasper) Galliher, was born on October 6, 1939 in Commiskey, Indiana. He was a 1957 graduate of Paris Crossing High School and just a few weeks later, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 28, 1957. Jack faithfully served his country until he was honorably discharged from active duty on October 10, 1959, and transferred into the Marine Corps Reserves.

Jack began what became a remarkable 35-year career with Cummins, working in facility maintenance. Jack’s creativity and practical skills extended well beyond his career. He could fix anything and was known for his welding, especially creating figurines fashioned from welded nuts, bolts, spark plugs, and other odds and ends. Jack found joy in fishing, tending to his vegetable garden, riding his electric bike, following the stock market, and cheering for the Indiana Pacers. His hands were never idle, always tinkering, dreaming, and creating something new.

He was a member of the Tea Creek Baptist Church, and previously held membership with The Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion Post 89, both in Seymour. Those who knew him best will remember him for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. He loved to joke, and he had an incredible memory that seemed to hold a story for nearly every occasion. He was always ready to share a good story—stories that were entertaining, memorable, and, occasionally embellished just a little along the way. More than anything, Jack cherished the time he spent with his family. Mr. Galliher passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour, with his loving family by his side.

Jack’s life will be cherished by his companion of almost 30 years, Sandra Colvin of Seymour; his children: Todd (Janet) Galliher of North Vernon, Indiana, Andra (Jim) Patton of Alabama, Paula (Tom Bresnahan) LaRoche of Florida, and Heather (Brian) Tempest of Scipio, Indiana; his companion’s children whom he loved as his own: Lisa (Royd) Wheeler of Seymour, and Jeff (Lori) Colvin of Greenwood, Indiana; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, four step-granddaughters, and nine step-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alma Galliher; his brothers: Bill, Wayne, Charles, and Harold Galliher; and his sister, Elma Cole.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Christensen Family Funeral Home, 311 Holiday Square Road, Seymour, Indiana. A funeral service honoring his life and legacy will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the same location. The United States Marine Corps will provide military honors at the funeral home.

He will be laid to rest at the Tea Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.
