Jerry Phillip Tankersley, a beloved son of Seymour, Indiana, was born on October 4, 1956, to Charles and Hester Hammon Tankersley. After a life rich in experiences, Jerry departed this world from his residence on January 18, 2026, leaving behind a tapestry of memories and a legacy of resilience.
Throughout his days, Jerry embraced the world with an outgoing spirit, endearingly known as the "good ole boy." His life's work as a dedicated machine mechanic showcased not only his skill but also his unwavering commitment to those around him. Jerry served his country proudly in the United States Army National Guard, an experience that further instilled in him a commitment to service and community.
Pride swelled in his heart as he celebrated his journey to sobriety. This personal achievement spurred his compassionate spirit into action, inspiring him to support others seeking their own paths to recovery. Jerry's unwavering belief that everyone could overcome their struggles was both a blessing to him and a guiding light for those fortunate enough to know him.
His adventurous spirit led him to found a motorcycle club called "Friends of Bill W," a clean and sober group that honored freedom on two wheels as much as it did friendship and support. Blessed with a zest for life, Jerry found immense joy in exploring the outdoors through fishing, hunting, and camping along the banks of the White River. Target shooting and boating also brought him laughter and camaraderie, cherished moments with friends that would fill long summer days with memories.
Jerry leaves behind a loving family, including his three sons, Shane L. Tankersley, Nathan J. Tankersley, and Seth D. Tankersley, each carrying a piece of his spirit forward. Brothers John and his wife Reda Tankersley, Morris Tankersley, and David Tankersley and his wife Carolyn stand by, mourning the loss of their brother while celebrating the shared history they hold dear. Jerry’s legacy also brightly shines through the three grandchildren who knew him not just as a grandfather, but as a source of joy and adventure. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Tammie Taylor Tankersley and his daughter Tia Marie Tankersley.
As we gather to honor Jerry's life, we invite all who knew him to join us for visitation at Christensen Family Funeral Home, located at 311 Holiday Square Road, Seymour, Indiana on January 22, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM. with Rev. Jim Hudson officiating. He will be laid to rest at Scottsburg Cemetery next to his beloved wife Tammie Taylor Tankersley. In this time of remembrance, we not only grieve the loss but also celebrate a life lived fully, a heart that loved deeply, and a spirit that will forever soar free.
