Jimmie (Whitney) Hogue

May 17, 1930 — October 31, 2025

Seymour

Jimmie Lee (Whitney) Hogue, age 95, a cherished mother, grandmother, and devoted wife, departed this world on October 31, 2025, at Covered Bridge Healthcare of Seymour, Indiana. Born on May 17, 1930, in Scottsville, Kentucky, Jimmie lived a life full of laughter, love, and unwavering faith—a life that shaped all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As an amazing homemaker and talented seamstress, Jimmie adorned her home and family with her craft, creating a warm and welcoming sanctuary filled with comfort and care. She was an excellent cook, remembered fondly for her legendary chicken salad and fudge, culinary delights that brought together family and friends at many gatherings. Her hands, skilled in sewing and cooking, also tended to her beloved garden, where she nurtured not just plants, but the spirit of giving which defined her life.

Jimmie's greatest partnership was with her beloved husband, Amon C. Hogue, who predeceased her after sharing 67 wonderful years together. Their bond was not just a marriage but a mission—a heartfelt ministry where they devoted their lives to caring for the elderly. They were a team in every sense; through hospital visits and shared prayers, they left indelible marks on the hearts of many. Jimmie was more than a prayer warrior; she was a beacon of light, lifting spirits with her infectious smile and joyful laughter, reminding everyone of the importance of her faith.

With a personality that lit up any room, Jimmie delighted in telling stories, helping anyone in need, and sharing warmth through her kindness. She never shied away from fun, and her laughter resonated like the sweetest melody, inviting everyone around her to join in the joy of the moment.

The legacy of her faith and community service thrived within the walls of Living Word Baptist Church, where she was an active member for over 19 years. Jimmie devoted her time as a Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School leader, and a steadfast wife to a faithful deacon, leaving behind a vibrant community that will forever treasure her spirit.

Jimmie leaves her loving family to continue her legacy: her daughter, Melinda Taskey and her husband Terry of Seymour, Indiana; her son, Jerry Hogue and his wife Isabel of West Lafayette, Indiana; her son, Billy Hogue of Athens, Alabama; along with seven grandchildren—John Hogue, Jim (Annie) Hogue, Janice (Burke) Streicher, Mary Hogue, Amon Hogue, Isaac (Teena) Hogue, and Rebekah (Scott) Allen—and 24 great-grandchildren who carry forward her tradition of love and compassion.

As we gather to remember Jimmie, let us hold her memory dear to our hearts, reflecting on her life which was beautifully intertwined with her faith. In her own words, let us always ask ourselves, in life and in death, “Do you know Jesus?” because for Jimmie, nothing was more important than that connection.

She joins her beloved family in eternal rest, including her father, George "Hershel" Whitney; her mother, Mattie Shipley Whitney; her cherished husband Amon; her sister Josephine Whitney; and her brothers Eugene H. Whitney, Lonnie D. Whitney, G. Douglas Whitney, Loren E. Whitney, Robert A. Whitney, Frank M. Whitney, and Gilbert Whitney, alongside her daughter-in-law Susan Hogue.
