Johnny Gerbig

Johnny Mearl Gerbig, age 73, born in Indianapolis, Indiana and a resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026 at his residence, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on May 29, 1953 to the late Louis Gerbig Sr. and the late Ethyle (McVay) Gerbig. Johnny was a Christian by faith and served his Country proudly in the United States Army. He worked for several years as a Supervisor for UPS where he took great pride in his work.

He was a man of strong character and an excellent work ethic. He loved his family dearly and was an excellent provider and instilled in them the value of hard work. He led by example and was a wonderful teacher and giver of solid advice. Johnny loved the outdoors with camping, fishing and deer hunting being passions of his. He enjoyed construction and the thrill of the roads while motorcycle riding.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jacque (Burdine) Gerbig of Seymour, Indiana, two sons, Chris Gerbig of Seymour, Indiana and John Gerbig and his wife Candy of Seymour, Indiana. One daughter, Jami Aull and her husband Tom of Amity, Indiana and one brother Louis Gerbig Jr. of Washington, Indiana. Two sisters, Christine Jones of Washington, Indiana and Cheryl Prowant and her husband Jim of Louisville, Kentucky. Eight grandchildren, Charissa, Johnny, Elizabeth, Preston, Kaitlyn, Kaylee, Quinten and Kyra. Six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, David Gerbig and two sisters, Linda Hall and Patty Tyree.

The family will receive friends on Thursday June, 25, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Christensen Family Funeral  - Seymour Chapel with funeral services beginning at 6:00 PM. 

The family requests that memorials be directed to Seymour Community Church in his honor.
