Kevin Scott Deaton, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and dedicated firefighter, passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 46. Born on March 19, 1979, in Scottsburg, Indiana, Kevin was a vibrant spirit whose laughter and humor touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
For 13 wonderful years, Kevin served with unwavering commitment as a firefighter with the Vernon Township Fire Department in Crothersville. His dedication to protecting and serving the community was only matched by his exuberant personality. Described as the life of the party, Kevin had a unique ability to make people laugh, often lightening serious moments with his infectious sense of humor.
Kevin’s passions extended beyond his career in firefighting. He held a profound love for baseball, playing the sport throughout his high school years with skill and enthusiasm. Additionally, he enjoyed golfing, and a special place in his heart was reserved for watching wrestling, activities that often brought friends and family together for joyful moments.
As a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, Kevin drew strength and guidance from his faith, which provided comfort during both joyful times and challenges.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Ann McIntosh Roberts (James) of Austin, Indiana; brothers, Charles Deaton (Jenni Shawver) of Seymour, Indiana, Paul Deaton (Becky) of Columbus, Indiana, and Jay Roberts (Amber) of Paris Crossing, Indiana. He was a proud uncle to three nieces, Hannah (Zack) Pranger, Taylor Deaton, and Haley Roberts, and two nephews, Dalton Deaton and Chase Roberts.
Kevin joins in eternal rest his father, James Deaton, and his brother, James E Deaton, who will forever be remembered alongside him in the hearts of those who loved him.
A visitation to honor Kevin will take place on January 12, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Christensen - Hoagland Family Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana, followed by a funeral service beginning at 7:00 PM at the same location.
Kevin Scott Deaton’s life, characterized by his bravery and warmth, will be celebrated by all who had the privilege to know him. Though he has left this physical world, his memory will forever resonate in the smiles he inspired and the lives he touched.
