Marsha Lee Mowdy, age 73, a native of Seymour, Indiana and a resident of Freetown, Indiana passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Indiana University Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on July 25, 1950, the daughter of the late Winfred and Mary Maxine (Phillips) Cornett. Marsha graduated from Freetown School in the class of 1968 and went on to attend Kentucky Christian University. Throughout her life, she was a homemaker and was a longtime member of the Freetown Church of Christ.
On February 19, 1976, she was united in marriage to Clifton “Tony” Mowdy, Jr. at the Barboursville Christian Church in West Virginia. They were blessed with two children, Steven and Kristin. She was a member of the Freetown Elementary School PTO and was a huge supporter of all first responders. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and sitting outside, watching the cars go by. Marsha was known for her loud personality and always keeping up with the news. She was a very out-spoken, strong-willed, Christian woman.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Clifton “Tony” Mowdy, Jr. of Freetown; her son: Steven Mowdy and his wife, Ashley of Columbus, Indiana; her daughter: Kristin Anderson of Freetown; twelve grandchildren: Destiny, Zoey, Isaiah, and Cora Mowdy, Gavin, Tucker, Madison, and Sophia Gourley, Arlene and Ariel Peters, James “Bub” Anderson, Jr., and Aaron Broughton; her stepmother: Norma Harbaugh Cornett; her niece: Robin Perry and her husband, David of Freetown, and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her first stepmother: Kathleen Scott Cornett; her brother: Ronald Cornett and his wife, Saundra Cornett.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Freetown Church of Christ. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM at the church with Pastor Barry DeWitt officiating. She will be laid to rest at Freetown Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be directed to the Pershing Township Volunteer Fire Department.
