Marshall Durell Smith, born on July 9, 1943, in Dearborn, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his residence in Seymour, Indiana, on November 25, 2025. He lived a life dedicated to service, both in his role as a Police Officer and through his courageous military service in the U.S. Navy, where he served honorably in Vietnam.

Marshall was a proud alumnus of American University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. This education laid the groundwork for a career marked by commitment to the safety and well-being of his community. Throughout his years as a police officer, Marshall exemplified the qualities of a dedicated public servant, earning the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of those he served.

Those who knew Marshall remember him as a man deeply rooted in his Christian faith. He was a private individual who valued meaningful connections and engaged in delightful conversations. His inquisitive nature often led him to ask thoughtful questions, reflecting a genuine interest in the lives and experiences of others. Marshall's generous spirit, kindness, and loving heart touched the lives of many, and his warm presence will surely be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

In addition to his career and faith, Marshall had a passion for collecting guns, an interest that brought him joy and satisfaction throughout his life.

He is survived by his beloved fiancé Beverly Gudgel and his cherished sister, Judy (Richard) Gulsvig. Marshall also leaves behind several nieces and nephews residing in Arizona and California, who will carry cherished memories of their time together.
