Mary Nichols, a vibrant and spirited soul who graced this world with her presence, left us on October 4, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on September 2, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois, Mary lived her life with sass and grace, always quick to speak her mind yet embodying a deep compassion for others.
A cherished member of the Church of the New Covenant for five years, Mary dedicated herself to serving those around her and became deeply involved in the Leaving the 99 ministry. Her faith was a pillar of her existence, and she took immense joy in guiding others towards Jesus. Her love for Celebrate Recovery at church was evident; as a leader in this ministry, she transformed lives with her warmth and encouragement.
Mary's children were her world. Her sons, Byronn Ray Rider and Dakota Reed Nichols, both of Scottsburg, Indiana, were not only her pride but also her greatest joys. She poured her heart into motherhood, raising them with the same love and spirit that defined her life.
She is remembered fondly by her loving mother, Danette Patterson Elliott of Austin, Indiana; her sisters, Naomi Hardin of Lafayette, Indiana, and Lisa Nichols of Lewisburg, Tennessee; her stepsisters, Lisa Thomas of Scottsburg, Indiana, Susana Wheeler of Madison, Indiana, Teresa Campbell of Scottsburg, Indiana, and Victoria Harbold of Scottsburg, Indiana, and the love of her life, Robert Davis of Scottsburg, Indiana. Together, they hold onto the cherished memories created with a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many with her outspoken nature and vibrant personality.
Mary is preceded in death by her father, Everette Nichols Jr., who surely welcomed her into the embrace of eternity.
Though Mary's time on this earth was far too short, her legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering faith will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
