Matthew Scott Gillaspy

May 4, 1976 — December 21, 2025

Seymour

Matthew Scott Gillaspy, a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on December 21, 2025, at his residence in Seymour, Indiana. Born on May 4, 1976, in the heart of Seymour, Matthew’s vibrant spirit was a beacon of warmth, love, and joy to all who crossed his path.

From his earliest days, Matthew was a creature of passion and energy. A proud graduate of Seymour High School in 1994, he cultivated an outgoing personality that allowed him to embrace life’s moments with an open heart and a welcoming smile. Matthew never met a stranger; he approached each new encounter as an opportunity to foster connections and share kindness. This ‘servant’s heart’ propelled him to help anyone in need and endeared him to those fortunate enough to know him.

Matthew was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he found solace and strength throughout his life. He passionately nurtured his relationships with family and friends, always putting them first. Above all, it was his family that filled his heart with immeasurable joy. As a devoted husband to Samantha Gillaspy, Matthew relished in the everyday wonders of life shared together.

His role as a father brought him unparalleled delight. Whether coaching his children’s sports teams, cheering them on from the sidelines, or creating lasting memories on the golf course, his love was palpable. Matthew was the proud father to Burke Matthew, Colton, Landon, Brianna Prather (and her husband Austin), Emma, Payton, and Abby, always eager to share and celebrate their victories—big and small. Also his two beloved grandchildren, Savannah and Hudson Prather.

Matthew’s many interests reflected a man who fully embraced life. A huge Dallas Cowboys fan, he connected with the thrill of every game, often sharing that fervent enthusiasm with those around him. His passions were as diverse as they were engaging—whether it was gardening, skiing, or the simple pleasure of baking and cooking in the kitchen, he poured love into every endeavor. Christmas was particularly special for Matthew; the festive season brought forth his exuberance and spirit, casting a glow of warmth and togetherness upon his family.

On the day of his passing, surrounded by the love of his family, Matthew departed this world, leaving behind a legacy interwoven with laughter, compassion, and unwavering support. He is survived by his loving wife, Samantha; his caring father Bob Gillaspy and his life partner Judy Mellencamp; his devoted mother, Becky Hall Gillaspy; his siblings Mark Gillaspy (and Jessie) and Angie Rennekamp (and Dr. Paul); his children, and the cherished grandchildren.

Matthew Scott Gillaspy lived not only a life woven with purpose but also one that resonated with the profound beauty of family and friendship. His light will forever shine bright in the hearts of those he loved, a guiding star illuminating paths even in his absence.
