Larry Marvin Murphy, a steadfast soul who graced this world for 87 remarkable years, departed from this life to Glory on November 4, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family at his residence in Freetown, Indiana. Born on June 24, 1938, in Seymour, Indiana, Larry's journey through life was marked by devotion, hard work, and a gentle spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
For over 36 years, Larry dedicated himself to Cummins, weaving together the fabric of an industrious career characterized by his unwavering work ethic. It was a common sight to see him mowing the grass, his love for John Deere tractors evident in his simple joys. He found delight in the little things – picnics, fishing with cane poles, and the thrill of squirrel hunting – all moments that painted a tapestry of cherished memories shared with his beloved family. To Larry, the world sparkled brighter when surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and pride.
An integral part of the Freetown Apostolic Pentecostal Church community for over 20 years, Larry's faith stood as a testament to his character. He loved the Lord deeply, embodying the heartfelt truth found in Ecclesiastes 3:11: "He hath made every thing beautiful in his time." A soft-spoken man of few words, Larry's presence alone was often enough. When he chose to speak, his words carried weight—they expressed his mind clearly and resonated with sincerity. Known for his generosity, gentleness, and a delightful dry sense of humor, he effortlessly brightened the lives of those around him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience in the hearts of his family, including his beloved wife of over 67 years, Rose Dale Jewell Murphy of Freetown, Indiana. He is also survived by his children: Darren Murphy and his wife Rachel of Crothersville, Indiana; Darla Adkins and her husband Rick of Seymour, Indiana; Cathy Lanning and her husband Tim of Crothersville, Indiana; Sandy Adkins of Crothersville, Indiana; Tina McCory and her husband Rex of Brownstown, Indiana; and Amy Murphy-Nugen and her husband Les of Bloomington, Indiana. His familial bonds further expand through 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry a piece of his loving spirit within them.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Murphy; his mother, Virginia Morgan Murphy; his brother, Bobby Murphy; his sister, Rita Murphy; and his son-in-law, Carl Adkins.
As we gather to celebrate the profound impact Larry Marvin Murphy has had on our lives, let us remember him not only for the man he was but for the legacy of love and faith he leaves with us. May we find comfort in the memories we share and the lessons he imparted, forever echoing in our hearts.
