Richard Earl Cox II, age 47, born on June 18, 1979 in Seymour, Indiana, the son of Richard Earl Cox Sr., and Marcia (Monroe) Cox of Crothersville, Indiana, passed away on Monday July 27, 2026 at IU Health Methodist Hospital. Richard will forever be remembered as a caring, strong willed, man that never knew a stranger and loved people. He had a strong creative nature that started when he was just a young kid being mischievous and rambunctious and eager to learn. As an adult he enjoyed putting things together and was a problem solver who enjoyed figuring things out, eventually making his career as an appliance repairman.
He is survived by his parents, four sons, Adam Richard Cox of Austin, Indiana, James Cox of Scottsburg, Indiana, Ezekiel Hyland of Cleveland, Ohio and Xander Cox of Cleveland, Ohio. Joshua Hyland and his wife Ally of Cleveland, Ohio, Donavan Chastain of Scottsburg, Indiana whom he loved and raised as his very own. One daughter, Zelda Cox of Cleveland, Indiana and Taylor Law of Scottsburg that he loved and raised as his very own. Three brothers, Duane Cox and his wife Tammy of Champaign, Illinois, Brett Cox and his wife Megan of North Vernon, Indiana and Jeremiah Cox and his wife Janice of Crothersville, Indiana. One sister, Shauna Cox of Evansville, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Magdalena Cox, paternal grandparents, Ladonna Jean (Waggoner) Cox and Earl "Skinny" Cox and maternal grandparents, Wallace and Dorothy (Perry) Monroe.
The family will receive friends on Thursday August 6, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Christensen Family Funeral Home - Seymour Chapel with funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be directed to Leaving the 99 Homeless Ministry.
