Robert Wallace Ellis Sr., age 99, born on June 14, 1926, in Seymour, Indiana, was graduated from this life to Glory on November 6, 2025, at Covered Bridge in his beloved hometown. Surrounded by the love of his family, he joyously departed to be with Jesus, fulfilling his dream of reaching his heavenly home.
A courageous Navy Veteran of World War II, Robert's dedication to his country was evident, having left his studies as a junior at Seymour Shields High School to serve and protect. His commitment to service never waned, as he poured that same energy into his community and family upon returning home. In 1948, he founded the Ellis Jewelry store, igniting a legacy that began humbly within his father’s barber shop and blossomed into a cherished landmark in Seymour.
Throughout his life, Robert was defined by his generous spirit, vibrant personality, and unwavering faith. A faithful member of the Wesleyan Church, he fervently shared his love for Jesus through daily Bible readings and thoughtful discussions that illuminated the hearts of those who encountered him. Generous, loving, caring, and compassionate, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met, often engaging in conversations steeped in scripture and faith.
His heart was particularly drawn to the youth, as he delighted in driving the bus for church children, whisking them away to camps and exciting adventures. His love for driving expanded as he delivered meals for Grace Fellowship and transported the “Prime Timers” for their outings, ensuring laughter and fun accompanied every journey.
Robert's inquisitive mind found pleasure in the simple joys of life; he cherished fishing, restoring old items, and diligently working on remodeling rental houses. He was always the hard worker, steadfast in his efforts and committed to enhancing the world around him.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons Max Ellis and his wife Mary Kay of Greensboro, North Carolina, Pat Ellis and his wife Theresa of Columbus, Indiana, Jeff Ellis and his fiancé Anita Banks of Seymour, Indiana, and his daughter Nancy Eldridge and her husband Mike of Seymour, Indiana. A proud grandfather, Robert leaves behind eight grandchildren: Rob Ellis III, Greg Eldridge, Todd Ellis, Matthew Ellis, Nathan Ellis, Stacy Phillips, David Shelly, and Macey Lynn Ellis, along with numerous great-grandchildren who will carry forward his vibrant legacy.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents William Ellis and Edith Clark Ellis, his first wife Mary Grabill Ellis, who shared 49 years with him and was the mother of his children, his second wife Ruth Ellis of 22 years, his son Robert Wallace Ellis Jr., and his sister Gaynell Phillips.
As we gather to remember and celebrate Robert’s extraordinary life, we are reminded of his faithfulness and resolve as expressed in 2 Timothy 4:7-8: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Those who knew him will find solace in the knowledge that he has received a "crown of righteousness" and has embraced the Lord he loved so dearly.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Christensen Family Funeral Home, located at 311 Holiday Square Road, Seymour, Indiana.
