Scottsburg

Ronald "Ron" Lealand Hobbs, age 48, a beacon of joy and laughter, passed away at his residence on February 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that echoed through the rolling roads and open highways that he so passionately embraced. Born on October 18, 1976, in the charming town of Scottsburg, Indiana, Ron’s journey was marked by laughter, kindness, and a zest for life that touched everyone around him.

Ron was a proud 1995 graduate of Scottsburg High School, where his infectious spirit and charisma endeared him to his classmates and teachers alike. It was here that he began his love affair with the open road, embarking on a fulfilling career as a truck driver. To Ron, each mile was an adventure, a chance to explore the breathtaking sights and experiences that our vast country has to offer. He became a master navigator, guiding his big rig through the landscapes that he cherished, while also reflecting the warmth and friendliness of the towns he visited.

Known for his delightful sense of humor, Ron was a veritable social butterfly, often seen spreading cheer among friends and family with his funny quips and sarcastic remarks. He possessed a heart of gold, welcoming everyone with open arms, spreading happiness wherever he went. His genuine love for people was palpable, making every gathering a joyful occasion. Ron’s contagious laughter could lift the spirits of the weary, and his friendships were a testament to the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him.

Ron had a multitude of interests that enriched his life. He was an ardent music lover, finding solace and joy in melodies from all genres. Video games brought him excitement and a thrill of competition, often shared with family and friends. He shared a unique bond with his father, racing monster trucks—a memory that always brought a smile to his face. A passionate motorcycle enthusiast, Ron would often feel the rush of the wind as he rode, embodying the freedom he so dearly cherished.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 23 years, Martina Hensley Hobbs, a partner who stood by him through every twist and turn of life. Their love is a shining example of devotion and companionship. He is also survived by his father Ronald Hobbs and mother Mary Kollmeyer Hobbs, who nurtured him with love and support throughout his life. His cherished sisters, Jenny Shawber of Kokomo, Indiana, and Marron Potter and her husband Darrell of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, along with several dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will hold his memory close, remembering the warmth and light he brought into their lives.

Ron was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Goodrich, whose spirit will forever be intertwined with his in the hearts of those who loved them both. His maternal grandparents, Rev. Harold and Ida Kollmeyer, and paternal grandparents, Tarrence and Anna Hobbs, now watch over him as he joyfully reunites with them.
