Sam Herman LaMaster, born on August 22, 1946, in the serene hills of Perry County, Kentucky, moved through life with a gentle yet firm demeanor that endeared him to all who crossed his path. On December 7, 2025, Sam passed away at Norton Scott Hospital in Scottsburg, Indiana, leaving behind a legacy rich in love, laughter, and a dedication to his craft that spanned over fifty years in HVAC Appliance Repair.
A man of the earth and a true tinkerer at heart, Sam’s passion for fixing things was fueled by an unwavering determination to make the world a little better. His certification in HVAC from Ivy Tech after high school became just another tool in his vast arsenal of skills, enabling him to embrace life’s challenges with a “get it done” attitude. He thrived on the satisfaction of solving problems, a quality that not only defined his career but also his approach to daily life.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Sam was a vibrant spirit who loved the outdoors. The rustle of leaves in the trees and the gentle splash of water at his favorite fishing spots were but a backdrop to his joyful heart. He found solace in camping trips, where family memories were forged, and under the twinkling stars, his voice would rise in song, a reflection of his love for Bluegrass music.
Sam was a beloved family man, embracing and nurturing connections that spanned generations. He is survived by his cherished wife, Linda Stewart LaMaster of Scottsburg, Indiana; his sons, Timothy LaMaster and his wife Billie of Crothersville, Indiana, and Kevin Petty and his wife Mary of Underwood, Indiana; as well as his daughters, Donna Moore and her husband Robert of Scottsburg, Indiana, Kimberly LaMaster of Salem, Indiana, and Carolyn Finch and her husband Timothy of Scottsburg, Indiana. Additionally, he leaves behind cherished memories with his brother, James LaMaster of Lexington, Indiana, and his sister, Shirley Noel and her husband David of Clarksville, Indiana, along with no fewer than fourteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom carry a piece of his spirit forward.
Sam was predeceased by those who shaped his early life, including his father, Raymond LaMaster, and mother, Edna Spencer Tinsley. He also mourned the loss of Linda Sue Gunter LaMaster, his wife of thirty-two years and the mother of his children, whose memory he held close to his heart.
The world is a little dimmer without Sam LaMaster's warm presence, yet his legacy is woven into the very fabric of his family, friends, and community. His gentle yet peacemaking personality will echo in their lives, resonating in the stories they share and the love they continue to nurture.
