Sharon Sue Chasteen, 78, of Scottsburg, IN passed away on July 25, 2025 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, IN. Born on November 22, 1946 to Arthur and Kathleen (nee Campbell) Stoneburner in Vincennes, IN, Sharon was one of three children.
Sharon was a graduate of Scottsburg High School and went on to Indiana University Southeast to become a Registered Nurse, a career that spanned more than 30 years of caring for people. She married Jerry Chasteen in June of 1967 and together they made two beautiful boys, Jeffrey and Travis. Their life together spanned almost six decades and a host of memories.
Sharon loved her family with all her heart. She was a wonderful mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved taking her family on trips, some to Florida, but most out west. She loved Rocky Mountain National Park, and she shared that love with her siblings and their families, and passed it to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved the great outdoors, camping, fishing, hiking, and just taking in nature’s beauty.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, granddaughter-in-law, and sister-in-law. She is survived by her husband Jerry, her sons Jeffrey (Shelley) and Travis (Angie), her sister Patricia (Randy), her grandchildren Nathan, Christopher (Jessica), Amanda (Scotty), Aryn (Tom), Michael, Symon, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on August 23, 2025 at Christensen-Hoagland Funeral Home at 80 N. 1st St. in Scottsburg. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm - 3:00pm with a private service for the family after. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to Rocky Mountain Conservancy to help preserve the place that Sharon loved so much.
