Stephen "Steve" Lee Carlisle, age 82, a native of Scottsburg Indiana and a resident of Lexington, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 23, 1940 to the late Joseph Carlisle and the late Louise (Johnson) Carlisle. He was a master maintenance specialist and a jack of all trades. He worked for Grote Manufacturing for 30 years, Scottsburg Plastics and Genesis Plastic, retiring ion 2011. He specialized in construction, electric, electronics, mechanical and plumbing. He attended Nabb Presbyterian Church and was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. Steve loved electronics, model railroading, John Deere Tractors, puzzles and could fix anything. He will forever be remembered as a sweet, quiet, calm, generous man that was friendly to everyone and had a unique sense of humor. He was married on June 29, 1963 to the love of his life and forever team mate, Jeanne (Noe) Carlisle. Together they were volunteers for many events and organizations, including the Scott County Heritage Center and Museum and was well know for his cooking at the Scott County Genealogical Society Breakfast, where he was the co-organizer of the society.
Steve was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanne (Noe) Carlisle of Lexington, Indiana, one daughter, Stephanie Kirby and her husband Tracy of Lexington, Indiana. Three grandchildren, Leighanna Cunningham and her husband Kris of Scottsburg, Indiana, Tyler Kirby and his wife Kariann of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Shelby Kirby of Marion, Indiana. Two great grandsons, Bren Kirby and Graeme Kirby. Two sisters, Virginia Rutherford and her husband Bob of Scottsburg, Indiana and Sheila Barrett of Scottsburg, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Christensen-Hoagland Family Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM with Pastor Yusef Herman officiating. He will be laid to rest at Barnes Cemetery in Nabb, Indiana with full Military Honors. The family requests that donations be directed to the Scott County Community Foundation for the Scott County Genealogical Society.
