Tia Jean (Buster) Horton, age 56, a native of Columbus, Indiana and a resident of Brownstown, Indiana, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on February 19, 1968 to the late Garnet Buster and the late Patty Buster. She was a longtime member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Brownstown, Indiana, a 1986 graduate of Brownstown High School, She also attended IVY Tech and the House of James Beauty School.
Tia was an ornery, outspoken, honest, independent lady that was never afraid to speak her mind. She was a grant writer for FEMA and had a deep love for law enforcement. She was a former 911 dispatcher for the Jackson County Sherriff's Office and also in Boulder, Colorado and Valdez, Alaska. She loved dispatching and assisted in writing all dispatch protocol for the State of Alaska.
She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many.
She is survived by her two daughters, Natasha Horton and her finace Chance James of Norman, Indiana and Kacie Horton of Brownstown, Indiana. One brother, Tommy Buster of South Carolina. Two sisters, Tenley Foster and her husband CJ of Brownstown, Indiana and Traci O'Conner and her husband Shaun of Colorado. One grandson, KyeLeon James.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Christensen Family Funeral Home - Winklepleck Chapel located at 320 North High Street, Brownstown, Indiana 47220. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
